That Writer’s Block!

So, as it turns out, I’m not very good at sitting down to write during June and July. My brain has been churning out ideas – both on bettering War of Wills and for future stories – but I just didn’t seem to be able to sit down and work

But, it’s August now, and apparently with the upcoming change from Summer to Autumn, the focus I need to sit down and crank this out has returned! So, my initial goal of a September release isn’t going to happen, but from this delay you get:

  • More dynamic dialogues
  • More of a feel for the group as a whole
  • More details
  • More backstory!!

Overall, you get more! As is hinted at by the increased word count between Draft 3 (83,450) and being halfway through Draft 4 (98,966). An additional 15k words, all working to better the story. And because I’m self-publishing instead of going the traditional route, I can say screw that stupid 50k-80k YA word limit! Of course, during Draft 4 proofreading, I may cull some things again – things I added that are just too much, or things I added that hold no plot- or character-development in them and are just there because I want them there. But there is no way that cull is going to move it very far away from 100k words.

All hail the freedom of self-publishing!

Anyway, the new timeline is as follows:

  • August-September: Finish Draft 4 writing and proofreading
  • October-November: Beta Reading Phase 2
    • Using some of my Beta Reading Phase 1 readers as well as a few new guys that don’t have Draft 3 to compare against
  • November: National Novel Writing Month! I’ll be re-starting Nightmare again since I’ve come up with so many wonderful ideas since last NaNo that require me to completely start it over again. Here’s to not getting bronchitis halfway through this year!
    • Please visit NaNoWriMo.org if you’d like to join the 50,000 words in 30 days challenge with me!
  • December-January: Sifting through Beta Feedback and creating Draft 5 – pre-publishing draft. Also getting into contact with the person who made my cover art last year for a few small tweaks – like changing my name on the cover to Becca instead of Rebecca, and adding my logo onto the back cover
  • February: Getting my book formatted properly and setting up an account on CreateSpace
  • My new goal publish date for War of Wills: Friday, March 20th, 2020
    • Yes, the Vernal Equinox. The Equinoxes and Solstices are very important in Corlonys, so I’m going to make it my goal to have at least most of my novels release on Equinoxes and Solstices. That means, if I miss the 3/20/2020 date, my next goal release date will be 6/20/2020. But I don’t plan to miss that date.

And, as far as Nightmare goes – I’m hoping Nightmare‘s writing process goes more smoothly than War of Wills. I’ll definitely have fewer things to juggle! During the writing process of War of Wills, which I started in Fall of 2017, I:

  • Discovered most of my stories linked together
  • Created Corlonys
  • Created the timeline all of my stories follow
  • Built a Website
  • Researched Publishing Options

And a whole bunch of other things that I won’t have to deal with for Nightmare that will hopefully shorten the process. Nightmare will definitely have its challenges – its style is going to be much different from War of Wills – but hopefully having as much as I have ironed out ahead of time, it’ll all run smoothly!

That’s all I have as far as an update for now! I’ll try to post more than once every six months from now on!
